Remote Access Server Assistance 

Logging into the system using Internet Explorer:

  1. Go to http://scotty.uwo.ca 

  2. If you are prompted to install an ActiveX control, you will need to install it now or you will not get access.

  3. Afterwards, click on the connect button. 

  4. This will bring you to the login page for the remote access server. 

  5. Username: UWO E-Mail ID - do not include the @uwo.ca 

  6. Password is your UWO e-mail password, this is case sensitive, it must be typed exactly as shown.

  7. Domain - from the drop down menu choose UWO in the Domain List. 

  8. If all previous steps were done correctly, you should now be logged into the remote access server server. 

 

Logging into the system using Firefox, Chrome, or a Mac OSX operating system

  1. If you are using not using Internet Explorer you will need to use the Remote Desktop Client provided by Microsoft. By default this client is available on Windows operating systems. If you are using a Mac operating system  you will need to download the Remote Desktop plugin from  Microsoft. You can get it here.

  2. Open the Remote Desktop Client and enter "scotty.uwo.ca" (sans quotation marks) for the computer name.

  3. Username: UWO E-Mail ID - do not include the @uwo.ca 

  4. Password is your UWO e-mail password, this is case sensitive, it must be typed exactly as shown.

  5. Domain - from the drop down menu choose UWO in the Domain List. 

  6. If all previous steps were done correctly, you should now be logged into the remote access server server. 

Transferring SPSS data to a local computer:

  1. Create your output. 

  2. In SPSS, go to "File>Export"....In the "File Type" Box, choose "Word/RTF" file

  3. Click "Browse", go to "Save in" and choose "Desktop" to save your file in. Click "Save" and on next screen, click "OK". 

  4. Close SPSS windows without saving again, and go back to the desktop. Your file should now be on the desktop! 

  5. Now, to get your file home...Go to the "Explorer" icon at bottom right of screen and click on it. 

  6. In the Explorer address window, type http://mail.uwo.ca 

  7. Type your UWO user name (only) and your UWO password into the appropriate boxes...you are now accessing the UWO mail server. 

  8. Click "Compose" at top left of screen. 

  9. In "To:" type in your usual e-mail address. 

  10. Click "Attach" 

  11. When the attachment window appears, go to "Browse>Look in" and Choose "Desktop" 

  12. Click on "your output filename>Open>Add>Attach"...your file should now be attached to the email you are sending to yourself. 

  13. Click "Send" 

  14. Once you have sent the file to yourself, you should be able to open your attachment on your local machine with Word or Wordpad and print it.
